Abstract

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) have become essential principles in applied sciences education and professional practice, shaping how institutions train professionals, conduct research, and deliver services. This paper examines the role of EDI in strengthening applied sciences education and improving professional practice across health sciences, engineering, technology, and related disciplines. Equity ensures fair access to opportunities and resources, diversity reflects the presence of individuals from different backgrounds and identities, while inclusion promotes active participation and belonging within academic and professional environments. The integration of EDI in applied sciences education enhances learning outcomes by encouraging diverse perspectives, critical thinking, and innovation. In professional practice, EDI contributes to improved service delivery, ethical decision-making, and culturally responsive engagement with diverse populations. The study highlights that institutions that embrace EDI principles tend to produce more competent professionals who are better equipped to address complex societal challenges. However, challenges such as systemic discrimination, unconscious bias, limited institutional policies, and unequal access to educational resources continue to hinder effective implementation of EDI frameworks. The paper concludes that strengthening EDI in applied sciences is essential for achieving fairness, improving educational quality, and enhancing professional excellence. It recommends policy reforms, inclusive curriculum development, capacity building, and institutional commitment to foster equitable and inclusive learning and working environments.
